Katherine's Law

Florida previously stated that a family who gave birth to a stillborn baby was not afforded the option of receiving a birth certificate. These families only received a death certificate for their loss. This past year, I sponsored a measure that changes this. Katherine's Law, HB 439, gives parents the option of seeking a birth certificate from the Department of Health. I worked with my colleagues in the Legislature, including our Senate sponsor, Sen. Steve Wise, in making this legislation possible. This bill was recently signed into law by Governor Bush.
